SUCKS!

Every hockey game at Pegula Ice Arena begins with the rendition of the national anthem and player introductions. Rodney, our beloved PA announcer, meticulously announces the names, positions, and numbers of all the opposing team's starters.

Following each introduction of the opposing team's players, we enthusiastically chant "sucks!" mere moments after their names are called. This boisterous tradition serves as a hearty welcome to Hockey Valley for each member of the opposing team.

Example:

Rodney: "At left defense for Michigan, #26, Seamus Casey

The Roar Zone: *collectively yells* "SUCKS!"

The Roar Zone maintains its tradition of shouting "SUCKS!" in unison after the announcement of each opposing team's starter.

Once the goalie, the final starter, is introduced, we proceed to individually point and shout "sucks" at each remaining player. This is succeeded by an even louder and more unified chant of "They all suck!"

HOCKEY VALLEY

This chant extends a warm welcome to all 6000 fans gathered in the magnificent Pegula Ice Arena. At the onset of each period, immediately after the puck is dropped, the President of the Roar Zone initiates a countdown: three, two, one. Upon reaching "one," the entire Roar Zone erupts into a resounding chant of "Hockey Valley," punctuated by five enthusiastic claps. This sequence repeats twice more, for a grand total of three repetitions.

Example:

President: "Three, two, one.

The Roar Zone: "HOCK-EY VAL-LEY"

TIMBER

Timber plays in the arena before the first puck drop. This song is one of our most memorable songs and is a staple of Pegula. All you have to do for this one is go crazy singing the song loud and proud.

PJ Mullen has created a specific Timber remix we use for the Timber song. You can listen to that here.

HEY EVERYBODY

Also known as the "goalie name chant".

This chant comes right after the Hockey Valley chant!

It will start by the Roar Zone President of that season by them yelling, "Hey everybody, say hi to my friend __ (insert opposing goalie's first name)."

The Roar Zone replies yelling back, "Hi __ (insert opposing goalie's name)."

Then, the student section chants, "__ sucks, __ sucks, __ sucks!"

After the start of the 3rd period, the opposing goalie will be on the end near the student section again. Our president will shout, "Hey __ (insert goalie's name) we're still here."

Right after the president yells "here", the rest of the student section chimes in "and you still suck".

As before the section chants "__ sucks, __ sucks, __ sucks!"

IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT

After Penn State scores a goal, the announcer will go over the details of the goal.

Before finishing with a "We are!"

The Roar Zone loudly replies with "Penn State!"

Immediately following our reply we start the chant, "It's all your fault" 4x.

HEY "GOALIE" (YOU SUCK)

Now, we change things up a little bit.

After we finish the chant of "It's all your fault" we begin the Hey Baby (You Suck) song. This song is to the tune of "Hey Baby" by Bruce Channel.

It goes like this:

Hey, hey (insert opposing goalie's name)

YOU SUCK!

I wanna know-oh

why you suck so bad

sucks every night!

(2x)

This is followed by 3 claps and then a repeat of the song. This has to be the LOUDEST CHANT of the night. Put everything you've got into it.

WE LOVE YA

A customary chant at other Penn State sporting events is this chant! Here's how it goes:

We love ya, we love ya, we love ya

And that is why we follow, we follow, we follow

Cause we support the Lions, the Lions, the Lions

And that's the way we like it we like it we like it!

Oh-oh-ohhh

Woah-oh-oh-ohh

Oh-oh-ohhh

Woah-oh-oh-ohh

(Repeat 2x)

End of 3rd time S-T-A-T-E GO STATE

Oh-OHHH!

COME ON LIONS

This chant is reserved for when Penn State needs a little boost! It is done to try and help rally a much needed goal! It's to the toon of Yankee Doodle:

Come on Lions score a goal, it's really really simple

Put the puck into the net and we'll go flipping mental

Nah, nah, nahnah, nah nanananana

(Repeat 3x)

OOOH SEE YA

A fan favorite chant.

This is done when an opposing player commits a penalty and is heading for the penalty box. Loudly we will holler "OOOOOOHHHHH" holding up our pointer finger as it goes in a circle. One the player is in the box, we finish with the first part and yell "SEE YA!"

Then we add "To the pit of misery...dilly dilly!"

WE'RE ALWAYS AT FULL STRENGTH

After one of our players exits the penalty box you'll hear the PA announcer state "Nittany Lions at full strength".

The student section replies with "We're always at full strength!" Followed by a quieter chant of "Except when we're not"

NITTANY WONDERLAND

A newer chant suggested by one of our members (we're always open to new chant ideas)!

It goes to the tune of Nittany Wonderland.

Over there it's so quiet.

Over here it's a riot.

Walking along

Singing our song

Walking In a Nittany Wonderland.

START THE BUSES

If Penn State is up by a large amoung of goals in the 3rd period, or about to sweep an opponent for the series, sometimes we will chant "START THE BUS-ES" at the opposing team.

WINNING AND YOU KNOW IT

This is a song we do towards the end of the 3rd when Penn State is up by a lot of goals. It is sung to the tune of "Happy and You Know It".

It goes like this:

If you're winning and you know it, clap your hands.

*clap clap*

If you're winning and you know it, clap your hands

*clap clap*

If you're winning and you know and you really want to show it, if you're winning and you know it clap your hands

*clap clap*

If you're losing and you know it clap your hands

*DON'T CLAP (point at the opposing team or shout something like "that's you!")

If you're losing and you know it clap your hands

*DON'T CLAP*

If you're losing and you know it and you really want show it, if you're losing and you knowit and you really want to show it clap your hands!

*DON'T CLAP*

HEY HEY, GOODBYE

This is reserved for once a series sweep is set and secured! It is simply the chant you've heard all around at sporting events (even outside of Penn State).

Here's how it goes:

Nah, Nah, Nah, Na, Hey Hey Hey Goodbye!" This is repeated about 3 times total!

ALMA MATER

Like all of our Penn State Sporting events, we always come together at the end of the game (win or lose) to sing the alma mater. Showing support either win or lose is a great way to keep the energy there. Support the team no matter what!

For the glory of old State,

For her founders strong and great,

For the future that we wait,

Raise the song, raise the song.

Sing our love and loyalty,

Sing our hopes that, bright and free,

Rest O Mother dear, with thee,

All with thee, all with thee.

(Softly)

When we stood at childhood's gate,

Shapeless in the hands of fate,

Thou didst mold us, dear old State,

Dear old State, dear old State.

(Louder)

May no act of ours bring shame,

To one heart that loves thy name,

May our lives but swell thy fame,

Dear old State, dear old State.
